How to Keep Your Smile White After Whitening

How to Keep Your Smile White After Whitening

After you've had professional teeth whitening done, you're going to want to keep it looking bright. Here are some tips on how to keep your smile white following your teeth whitening treatment.

Brush & Floss Thoroughly

In order to keep your teeth white, brushing and flossing regularly, and sufficiently, is key. A good oral hygiene routine will help you remove surface stains from your teeth and keep them from setting in. Be sure to brush your teeth twice a day every day, for two minutes at a time, and floss your teeth at least once daily.

It's important to be extremely thorough! Brush all four quadrants of your mouth, and keep brushing until you have completed the recommended two full minutes. You may find an electric toothbrush with a round, rotating head really helps with this process. Many electric toothbrushes come with built in timers to let you know when the two minutes is up.

Avoid Dark-Coloured Foods and Drinks

It's a good idea to avoid dark, pigmented foods or drinks can often cause tooth discolouration over time. Consume dark berries, coffee, tea, and spices such as curry in moderation in order to avoid staining your teeth.

Another Reason to Quit Smoking

Consider your teeth if you need another reason to quit smoking! Smoking will discolour teeth, turning them yellow or even brown over time.

If you want to keep your smile sparkling white, toss those smokes in the trash!

Contact Your Dental Professional for Occasional Touch Ups

Gradually the effects of your whitening treatment will wear off a bit. When this happens, it may be time for a touch up! Re-use the whitening trays you already have, and ask our dental professionals to order some more of the whitening solution for you.
